Privacy policy

1. Who we are

Champerology is operated by Liene, a private individual based in Norway (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for this website. You can reach us any time at hello@champerology.com - for horoscope requests, data questions, or pictures of your dog.

2. What we collect

Email signups: your email address, approximate timezone, the consent text you agreed to and when, your subscription status, and - if you choose it in the confirmation flow - your zodiac sign, used only to personalise what we send you. We use double opt-in: nothing is sent until you confirm via the link in our first email. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it any time by unsubscribing.

Analytics: privacy-friendly, cookieless usage statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics). No personal tracking, no cross-site profiling, no advertising pixels, and no consent banner is needed because nothing is stored on your device. It tells us how many people visit and which pages they read - never who they are.

Server logs: our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps short-lived request logs (IP address, user agent) for security and abuse prevention. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

3. What we never do

We do not sell your data, rent it, trade it, or share it with advertisers. We do not use it for anything beyond the service you signed up for. Your zodiac sign and reading preferences are never linked to your email unless you explicitly choose that.

4. Where data lives, and who processes it

Subscriber data is stored in the European Union (Supabase, Frankfurt region) with encryption at rest and in transit. Website hosting runs on Vercel (United States) under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Transactional email (your confirmation link, service alerts) is delivered by Resend (United States), which processes addresses on our instructions under a data processing agreement. If we ever add a daily-newsletter provider, this page will be updated before the first send.

5. Your rights

You can request access to your data, correct it, export it (CSV), or have it deleted - at any time, by one email to hello@champerology.com. Deletion is carried out as erasure across our systems. You can also withdraw consent and unsubscribe with one click in any email we send. If you feel we have mishandled your data, you have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) or to the data protection authority of the country where you live.

6. Retention

Unconfirmed signups are deleted automatically after 30 days. Confirmed subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and is then erased within 30 days. Server logs rotate within days. We keep no archives of deleted addresses - once it is gone, it is gone.

7. Cookies

We use the minimum: a session cookie if you pass the preview gate and a session cookie for the admin login. Both exist only to provide the service you asked for and are exempt from consent under ePrivacy rules. Analytics is cookieless and sets nothing. No third-party advertising cookies exist anywhere on this site.

8. Changes to this policy

If we change how data is handled, we update this page and - for anything significant - tell subscribers by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
